The role of nutrition in neurological health

Special Guest Speakers

Laura Piccio, MD PhD
Neurologist and Physician Scientist; on faculty at the Department of Neurology at Washington University, St. Louis
Dr. Piccio’s research integrates clinical and research aspects related to MS and currently focuses on the role of diet in modulating immune-inflammatory responses as well as the complex interplay among

nutrition, metabolism and the immune system in MS. She is a recipient of the Harry Weaver Neuroscience Award from the National MS Society and has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in international journals. Dr. Piccio will give practical nutritional advice for people with MS, based on research evidence and review of best practices in MS care.

Jan Kincaid Rystrom, RD, CDE, MEd
Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator
Jan has supported people of all ages in living their best lives while managing diabetes and other chronic conditions. She is a graduate of Western Washington University with a BS in Nutrition and Master of Adult Education and completed a dietetic internship at University of Washington. Jan will be speaking on a dietitian’s experience with The Wahl’s Protocol: a practical review of the science and the diet.

Theodore (Ted) R. Brown, MD, MPH
Director of Neuro-Rehabilitation at the MS Center at EvergreenHealth Dr. Brown is a board-certified member of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and works to maximize function and quality of life for individuals with MS. Dr. Brown will discuss an update on exercise and the promotion of an overall healthy lifestyle in MS.
